Activists in Argentina create ATA, Asociación de Travestis Argentinas (Association of Argentine Travestis), which still exists today as ATTTA (Asociación de Travestis, Transexuales y Transgéneros de Argentina). It aimed to draw visibility to police violence against this community. Another goal was to repeal the misdemeanor codes that criminalized travestis in Buenos Aires, such as the one against wearing “clothes of the opposite sex” in public. Other organizations emerged from ATA, including OTTRA (Organización de Travestis y Transexuales de la República Argentina) and ALIT (Asociación de Lucha por la Identidad Travesti).
